STATE A WRESTLING: Havre runs away in Class A

BILLINGS - It was a record-setting night for the Havre wrestling team Saturday as it won a third consecutive championship at the All-Class state meet at the MetraPark's Rimrock Auto Arena.
The Blue Ponies tore through the rest of the Class A field to score 294.5 points, which broke their own record of 282.5 points last season. Havre had 13 wrestlers place, sent seven to the finals and had five walk away champions. The Blue Ponies also matched Sidney for the most state titles by a Class A program with this one, their eighth.
"We got it," said Havre head coach Scott Filius at the end. "We had a great group of seniors and a good group of guys behind them." "We lose some seniors (for next year)," Filius added. "We'll just have to go to work again."
Belgrade finished a distant second with 179 points. Ronan (134) edged Corvallis (132) for third and wound up with its second trophy in as many years. The Chiefs also had the best showing of any other team when it came to the finals with three individual winners.
Senior Zach Robinson, who was runner-up last season, got things started for Ronan by defeating Sidney's Brennan Gorder 6-1 in the 105-pound final, and the good feelings continued on to his teammates.
"That felt great, felt wonderful," said Robinson. "I've been working hard all year and now it's nice to say it paid off."
Ronan, which brought 12 wrestlers to state, didn't really have a shot at catching Havre, but it was a good showing for the Chiefs nonetheless after last year's runner-up finish.
"We were short on numbers, but we did great," Robinson said. "We're right there with (Havre), hopefully we can catch them sometime."
Junior Cameron Neiss beat Miles City's Derrick Singleton 4-2 in the 125-pound final and junior Micky Cheff added a 4-0 victory over Havre's Aaron Olsen at 145 pounds to complete Ronan's finals sweep.
"This is indescribable," said Cheff, who went 40-4 this year. "That was sweet, I've worked all year for this.
Cheff's victory turned out to be one of the few setbacks for the Blue Ponies.
"They're so dominant," Cheff said. "It's always nice to take one of them down."
Frenchtown junior Tyler Stedman, who was seeking his second straight individual title, got taken down by Havre senior Chris Recio, who won his third title with a 7-4 decision at 112 pounds.
Frenchtown, which finished seventh overall, got off to a good start in the finals with Cody Ishler earning a 7-5 win over Laurel's Kolter Kukes in the opening 98-pound weight class.
Polson junior Brock Picard (171) won his second straight title by beating conference rival Seth Wright of Libby, 7-5. The Pirates and Greenchain both cracked the top 10 in the team standings. Picard
Libby senior Justin Graham (215) beat Columbia Falls junior Kelly Houle 4-0 in their final and Hamilton senior Brady Anderson (189) won his first state title with an 11-4 win over Belgrade's Phillip Pricket. His teammate Wes Sherman was not so lucky in the heavyweight final, losing to Havre's Mitch Schnittgen.
