Eagles hand Devils first league loss

The Valley Christian coaching staff didn't hesitate to call it the biggest win of the season for the Eagles, and with good reason.

Valley Christian handed first-place Corvallis its first conference loss on Tuesday, breaking a scoreless tie in the 58th minute of play and holding off the Blue Devils for a 1-0 Southern A win.

The victory came on the foot of Lincoln Palmer, who beat Corvallis keeper David Illgenfritz with an unassisted shot nearly halfway through the second period of play.

The Blue Devils outshot the Eagles 18-16 in the game.

Illgenfritz was credited with five saves, while Valley Christian goal keeper Erik Hartzell had seven.

The Eagles improved to 2-4-2 in conference. Corvallis dropped to 8-1-0.

Loyola Sacred Heart 0

The Yellowjackets broke a scoreless tie 10 minutes into the second half and then cruised to the Southern A victory over Loyola Sacred Heart in Missoula.

Wes Porter scored two goals for Stevensville. The first came in the 50th minute on a pass from Cody Cook. The second was 19 minutes later, this time off a feed from Matt Anderson.

Anderson also scored for the Jackets, driving home a penalty kick in the 60th minute.

For Loyola, goalkeeper Jason Englert was credited with seven saves.

At Kalispell, Lael Richmond scored twice and the Northern A Vikings held off a late rally to post the nonconference win.

Richmond scored twice and Matt Killian and Alec McCallum also tallied as Bigfork (3-6-2) took a 4-1 lead with 23 minutes left in regulation.

But Jeremy Curtis and Ryan Thompson scored in a three-minute span for the Cougars to cut the Vikings' advantage to one with 16 minutes left.

Dillon Charlebois had a pair of assists for Bigfork, which received 11 saves from Austin Jordt.

Josh Bray had a first-half goal for the Cougars.

At Bigfork, Kenna Hauns scored a second-half goal to lift the Vals to the Northern A draw.

Danielle Deleunthal scored off a feed from McKenzie Reeve in the 14th minute to give the Wildkats a lead before Hauns scored unassisted 12 minutes into the second half.

Danielle Morris made 12 saves in goal for Bigfork, which had just three shots on goal.

Niesha Thompson saved two shots in goal for Columbia Falls.

The Yellowjackets rolled to a three-goal advantage in the first half and then motored to the Southern A win in Missoula.

Jessica Larson, Blaire Brookshire, Mersadiez Leese and Hillary Weidow all found the back of the net for Stevensville.

While the offense was cruising, the Yellowjackets' Anna Tom pitched a shutout in goal.

No individual statistics were available for Loyola.
